Firehouse Subs Grant Brings Life Saving Devices to Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA – A gift of twenty life-saving devices will keep Douglas County students safer as they begin the new school year. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Board of Directors generously donated 20 life support devices to the Douglas County School System. The AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) have a combined value of up to $26,000 and carry the potential to save an employee or student life. These AEDs are portable, electric devices designed to deliver an electrical shock to victims of sudden cardiac arrest.

Douglas County School System Health Coordinator Nancy McCready presented one of the AEDs to Bright Star Elementary School Principal Heather Fields to ensure that the device is available when a rescue is required. The AED donation is designed to ensure that schools are prepared to provide life-saving assistance on the scene if a student goes into cardiac arrest.

McCready is grateful for the donation and says that the devices will make a difference in the school community. “Having these devices readily available can save lives. This device is a tremendous gift that has the potential to impact every student that we serve.”

The donation is part of the sandwich chain’s mission of impacting the life-saving capabilities and lives of heroes and their local community. A portion of the purchases at all US Firehouse Subs goes to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Since the Foundation started, it has granted over $35 million to provide equipment, training, and support to hometown heroes.

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was founded in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina by Firehouse Subs co-founders, Chris and Robin Sorensen who wanted to impact the .life‐saving capabilities of communities.
