Here are the top five stories in and around Douglasville today:

  1. The Atlanta-Douglasville Campus of Flexential is due for an expansion. The expansion will consist of a 36 MW development operational capacity, bringing capacity to 58.5 MW at this location. This FlexAnywhere platform will enable connections from Atlanta to Portland, OR. The facility in Portland is scheduled to come online in the fall of 2023, as is the existing 22.5 facility in Douglasville. A timeline for the local expansion was not given. (DatacenterDynamics)
  2. Douglasville was ranked fifth on the list of "The Most Dangerous Cities in Georgia," compiled by The West Palm Beach News. The report states the crime rate in Douglasville is at 5,775 incidents per 100,000 people. That makes it 140% more hazardous than the Georgia state average. It was also reported that the likelihood of being a victim of crime is one in 18. (West Palm Beach News)
  3. Douglas County Probate Judge Christina Peterson will answer allegations of judicial misconduct in Court on Sep. 5. Most of the allegations arise from her numerous online activities on Twitter. Although the activities occurred while she was still a candidate, the Judicial Qualifications Commission maintains that it has jurisdiction. Peterson is also accused of allowing seven people into the courthouse without going through security, as well as a dispute with her homeowner's association, and other incidents. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  4. A murder warrant was served against inmate, Danny Garrison, of Douglasville, in the Hancock State Prison. The warrant is in connection with the death of inmate Roland Lamont Phillips who was found stabbed in his cell. Garrison has been formally charged with felony murder. The facts will be presented to a Hancock County grand jury to decide if the case should go to trial. (The Union-Recorder)
  5. Sgt. Cyrus Colley, a veteran of the Atlanta Police Department and NAACP's National Deputy Director for Convention Security, officially launched his campaign for Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Colley aims to address the county's rising crime rates and restore public trust through his community-focused initiative, "The No Neighborhood Left Behind." His campaign emphasizes innovative leadership, transparency, and support for neglected young adults and juveniles.(EIN Presswire)
