Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:
- Gertrude's House, a Douglasville-based nonprofit organization, is set to host a "Walk It Out" event for breast cancer awareness on Saturday, Sep. 23. The walk will begin at Stewart Middle School, and attendees can begin registering as early as 7:00 a.m. There will be an opening ceremony at 8:00 a.m., and walking will commence at 9:00 a.m. Gertrude's House is being joined in this event by the Atlanta Chapter of the National Basketball Retired Player Association. - The Douglas County Chamber has announced a Financial Services Roundtable coming up on Friday, Sep. 22 at 8:30 a.m. The keynote speaker will be LaWanna Ross, the chamber's director of Small Business and Entrepreneurship. - It's time to get creative at the Douglas County Public Library! The library's "Bad Art Night for Teens" event will be back on Thursday, Sep. 14 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. This event invites teens to make a masterpiece out of unique or unusual art supplies. (Douglas County Public Library via Facebook)
- Douglasville's second annual Therapeutic Fall Festival is coming up this Friday, Sep. 15 at Hunter Park. This event will be held at the park's Adaptive Field/Baseball Pavilion or, in the event of rain, inside the Ike Owings Community Center. - Sign-ups are now open for the 2023 Winter Youth Basketball League with Douglasville Parks and Recreation. This league is open to players aged 7-12. Practices will begin on Nov. 6, and the season will officially begin on Dec. 9. The city also offers an Instructional League for players aged 5-6.
