How, When, Where To Recycle Christmas Trees In Douglasville

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — As Christmas comes and goes, you may wonder when is the best time to put out your live Christmas tree on the curb. Depending on how early you got your tree, it may be starting to dry out.

In the city of Douglasville, residents are able to start putting out their live Christmas trees — stripped of decorations — to the curb for recycling starting now through Jan. 8 on your scheduled pick-up day.

For residents outside city limits or who would rather take this route, Keep Douglasville Beautiful and Keep Douglas Beautiful are once again participating in the annual "Bring One for the Chipper" program, launched by the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation.

Residents can bring their live, undecorated Christmas trees to one of two Home Depot locations in Douglas County anytime through Jan. 8, with official events on the 8th:

• The Home Depot, 1000 Thornton Road, Lithia Springs
  • Official event: Jan. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon.
• The Home Depot, 7399 Douglas Blvd., Douglasville
  • Official event: Jan. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Additionally, residents can drop off their trees — again stripped of lights, ornaments and other decorations — at Douglas County Solid Waste, 1730 County Services Road, Douglasville anytime Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Jan. 31.

Since its inception, the Bring One for the Chipper program has recycled 6 million Christmas trees statewide. Mulch from the trees has been used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects and residents' yards.

The National Fire Protection Association recommends taking your Christmas tree outside after Christmas or when the tree is dried out, as dried-out trees can create a fire hazard. Dried-out trees should not be left inside a home or garage or leaning against a home.
