- On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Education announced that $3.9 billion in loan debt will be wiped out for students who attended ITT Technical Institute from January 2005 through its closure in September 2016. ITT had four different locations throughout metro Atlanta, including one campus in Douglasville. According to federal officials, the school misled students about helping graduates find high-paying jobs and also used deceptive recruiting tactics. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- The City Of Douglasville City Hall will be closed through this Friday, Aug. 19, while the final phase of roofing repairs is completed. During this time, departments that typically operate from City Hall will be working remotely from other City of Douglasville facilities. The building is expected to reopen next Monday, Aug. 22, unless the renovation schedule is extended due to weather conditions. (Press Release Desk )
- A Douglasville native will play in his fourth season of football with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers this fall after sustaining a serious knee injury in 2020. Linebacker Braelen Oliver's injuries included multiple torn knee ligaments and a torn hamstring, a dislocated knee, and nerve damage through his foot. Oliver returned to the field for the 2021 season, where he started in seven games. (Saturday Tradition)
- Registration is now open for the Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy, hosted by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO). During this 12-week class, students will learn about jail operations, administration, patrol operations, investigations, and more. - The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville has announced plans for the First Annual Multicultural Festival. The event will feature live performances, food vendors, cultural art exhibits, and more.
