  1. National Lampoon's Vacation will be available in special screenings in Douglasville at the Regal Arbor Place and IMAX Theatres this Jul 16 at 4:00p.m and 7:00 pm., and Jul 19 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the showing, held in honor of the 40th anniversary of the original film, are currently on sale.   2. Down the road in Paulding County, Hiram Douglasville Highway shut down on Monday morning due to a crash south of Hunter Road. The Paulding County Sheriff's Office related that four cars were in the accident and one person was taken to the hospital as of 6:00 a.m. Monday. The closure was announced to last up to two hours.   3. A Douglasville student-athlete has been awarded a football scholarship from the University of North Carolina. Douglas County High School wide receiver Aaron Gregory received the offer after participating in Mack Brown's Showtime Camp in June. Gregory, an anticipated graduate of the Class of 2026, has offers from several other prominent schools. (Subscription: Rivals.com - Alabama)
  4. Last Saturday, a fire broke out on Muse Bridge Road in nearby Carroll County. During the investigation, officials discovered a snake had entered through a hole in the floor under the oven, inadvertently causing an electrical short. The snake was pronounced dead at the scene; there were no other injuries. (WSBTV)
  5. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and Community Learning Centers have funded a new camp program for middle and high school students in the Douglas County School System. The Douglas County Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Camp, which kicked off this summer, provided students hands-on learning experiences as well as high school readiness skills. The aim of the camp is to "prepare students for the future ... [and] workplace success," said Superintendent Trent North. (Douglas County Georgia Schools via Facebook)

  • South Fulton Mayor Khalod Kamau was arrested Saturday and charged with criminal trespass and first-degree burglary. He was discovered walking on private property on Cascade Palmetto Highway, about a half hour outside Douglasville, and was released on an $11,000 bond. (News Break)
