1. Douglasville resident and U.S. Army Veteran Tanisha Moreland will soon be moving into a new home courtesy of NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and the Home Depot Foundation. Tanisha has dedicated 11 years of service to the Department of Family and Children Services, where she presently holds the position of Program Administrator, focusing on Food Stamps and Family Medicaid to support families in meeting their basic survival needs. 2. Despite the scorching temperatures, approximately 400 members of the community participated in the second annual Aqua Fest event organized by the Boundary Waters Aquatic Center on Aug. 26. This free program offered a wide range of activities, including water slides, slip n' slides, a rock wall, an amusement ride, mini golf, an inflatable obstacle course, and more. 3. The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County is hosting its annual Scarecrow Contest to celebrate the fall season. Local businesses, clubs, sports teams, nonprofits, and government departments are invited to participate by creating their most creative scarecrow for display at the Cultural Arts Center throughout October. Each entry can feature a yard sign with business information or logos, and participants will receive social media shoutouts. 4. The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County is offering an acrylic painting course in response to community requests. 5. The Douglasville Police Department is hosting a Free Fall Festival and Safety Expo on Oct. 7, from 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. at the Douglasville Public Safety Complex.
