The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Luana Nolen.

On Nov. 30, 2017 at around 10:30 a.m., Campbell knocked on the door of a residence on Hollis Street in the Douglasville area. The home was occupied by the three victims in the case. He forcibly entered the home with a rifle and yelled β€œyou know what this is.”

Campbell then raised the rifle in the direction of the victims. One of the victims in the home had his personal firearm on him for protection and in self-defense shot Campbell eight times. Another victim in the home was grazed by one of the bullets while trying to shield themselves from Campbell. Campbell then fled the scene. A 911 caller advised law enforcement that a man was walking around the neighborhood with a gunshot wound. Shortly thereafter Campbell was found near the location of the home invasion.

Surveillance video showed Campbell walking up to the home armed with a rifle under a jacket and then fleeing the scene and discarding the rifle after being shot. Campbell was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds and arrested once he recovered.
During the trial, the State introduced evidence of a separate home invasion Campbell committed just 17 days prior to this home invasion. Both of these incidents occurred in close geographical proximity to each other.

Douglas County District Attorney Ryan Leonard said, β€œEveryone should be able to have peace of mind when they are in their own homes. The verdict in this case sends a strong message that if you commit violent crime in our community especially in someone else’s home, you will be held accountable and punished to the full extent of the law. Douglas County can sleep safe knowing the defendant is off of the street.”

ADA Luana Nolen offered praise for law enforcement, β€œThe Douglasville Police Department’s quick response in this case made sure this defendant will never be able to harm the public again. The defendant was a menace to this area where this crime occurred and the work of these officers helped keep this defendant from terrorizing this area again.”
