Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:

  1. An investigation by the Fox 5 I-Team has revealed that two more elected officials in Douglas County have been named in an ongoing GBI investigation regarding possible abuse of county credit and purchase card abuse. The investigation uncovered subpoenas targeting certain expenditures that name Douglas County Commissioner Kelly Robinson and Probate Court Judge Christina Peterson. This news comes after two other Douglas County commissioners were temporarily removed from office following indictments on charges of bid rigging. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. Attention drivers: there will be no on-street parking on Church Street through Aug. 27. As work continues along Church Street, sections of the road will experience closures with little or no notice. Work in the area is slated to continue through the week of Aug. 21. (DouglasvilleGA.gov)
  3. Fowler Field is one of nine finalists in the 2023 Niagara Perk Your Park Campaign, and the City of Douglasville is asking for your support to win a $75,000 grant. The winning park will receive a grant to create a rain garden for stormwater runoff management. Fowler Field is located within a floodplain, resulting in standing water after rainy days. The city would also use grant funds to improve the park's trails. You can click here to nominate Fowler Field for the $75,000 grant, and you can vote once per day through Sep. 18. 4. In case you missed it, there are two upcoming adult sports seasons ready to kick off at Deer Lick Park. Fall Adult Co-ed Kickball begins on Aug. 15 and will run through Oct. 25 with eight games.
