Park Walks In Douglasville Good For You, Coronavirus Or Not
A Facebook post from Douglasville's parks department urged walking to stay fit during the coronavirus — as long as you stay 6 feet apart.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — With coronavirus restrictions everywhere, most governments are trying to discourage park gatherings. In Douglasville, though, it was being encouraged — sort of.
Douglasville’s Department of Parks and Recreation announced Monday on its Facebook page that March 30 was “Take a Walk in the Park Day” and that residents should get out and walk around.
“We’re just trying to get people out to exercise,” said Chris Bass, assistant parks and recreation director. “As long as they practice social distancing.”

The department’s Facebook post extolled the benefits of walking: It improves blood pressure, regulates blood sugar, helps you lose weight, reduces stress and helps maintain mental health.
While the post hadn’t seemed to boost park attendance, Bass said, it hadn’t hurt it, either. “Everyone is pretty much liking it,” he said.
About a dozen walkers were spotted early Monday evening circling the lake at Hunter Memorial Park in Douglasville. Most appeared to be keeping at least 6 feet distance from people who weren’t close acquaintances.
It didn’t hurt that the weather was cool and comfortable. “It’s a beautiful day,” said Rashanda Ravenel of Douglasville, walking with daughter Khaya.
