DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Ann Jones Guider, Douglas County District 4 commissioner, will not seek reelection in 2022, marking the end of her 40-year career serving the county.

Guider was first elected to the Board of Commissioners in 2010, but served as the Douglas County tax commissioner for 28 years prior. She also served six years serving under former County Tax Commissioner Lamar Smith prior to her time in that role, the Sentinel reported.

Guider said she was "honored and grateful to the people" who elected her to serve them. She told the Sentinel she felt 12 years on the board was enough, and that it was "time for some new, younger blood to be in there."

Her term ends Dec. 31, 2022. She said in an announcement on her website that she feels it's important to have a conservative voice on the board, and she plans to back a candidate who will represent the district and county in that manner.

However, she said she wouldn't disclose the name so as to not "steal their thunder" before they announce their candidacy.

"It is with bittersweet emotions that I announce that I will not be seeking re-election this year, and that my term as your District 4 Commissioner will end on December 31," Guider said in the announcement. "It has been such an honor to serve you during my tenure that began in 2011 as your commissioner. I have always strived to respect and listen to the citizens, and, when voting, tried to do so in such a manner I believed was best for Douglas County."
