  1. The WNBA's Atlanta Dream team and Microsoft have teamed up to offer an innovative basketball camp in Douglasville that teaches girls STEM concepts using sports. Girls ages 6 to 14 can register today for the event on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Douglas County High School. All participants will receive Atlanta Dream prizes including a commemorative t-shirt, bag, and team photo. (WNBA.com)
  2. The Douglasville Police Department is working with the FBI to investigate a case of "ghost guns" being trafficked in the Atlanta metro area. Three suspects, including two from the nearby towns of Marietta and Acworth, face various charges in connection to the weapons, which had been illegally modified to fire automatically. All three men were indicted by a federal grand jury on Jul. 12. (CBS 46 News)
  3. A man from Douglasville was one of three suspects to be arrested for alleged involvement in a fraudulent bank transaction plot. On Jul. 22, bike patrol and plain clothes officers working in the Greenwich area responded to reports of fraudulent activity at a nearby bank, where they detained the three suspects. 21-year-old Anwar David Buchanan of Douglasville faces Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 4, Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 3, and more.   4. Habitat for Humanity has awarded a disabled Army veteran a brand new home in Douglasville. Local house sponsors include Chapelhill Church in Douglasville and Jimmy DeFoor, owner of DeFoor Plumbing. The veteran, 30-year-old Kelly Price, will move into the home with her three young children.   5. The University of Georgia Extension of Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding counties is offering a Georgia Master Naturalist Program beginning Aug. 25. During this 11-week program, participants will explore Georgia habitats and ecosystems and learn the impact humans have on nature. Registration is still open and will close on Aug. 18.
