GCSA Honors State Rep. Brooks Coleman

State Rep. Brooks Coleman, R-Duluth, chairman of the State Education Committee and lifelong educator, has been honored with the 2012 Charter Schools Impact Award by the Georgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA).

The award recognizes Coleman’s commitment to K-12 education as well as his advocacy for public charter schools and expanded parent choice in education, according to a press release issued by GCSA.

Coleman, who has also served as an assistant superintendent, director of Curriculum Development and a school principal in Gwinnett County, was first elected to public office in 1993. He has been instrumental in working to develop a new QBE (Quality Basic Education) funding formula for education in Georgia. He is also an in-demand motivational speaker.

Tony Roberts, president and CEO of GCSA, praised Coleman as he presented the award. “Brooks Coleman knows Georgia education inside out. He has shown great courage in challenging the status quo and advocating that the needs of children be fundamental in all discussions of K-12 education. He has been a strong advocate for legislation to expand K-12 horizons with public charter schools across our state. With 30 years of experience in Georgia public schools, he has fearlessly and consistently advocated for the best education Georgia can provide to its children.”
