Travelers and shoppers should have a smoother drive on Pleasant Hill Road through the Gwinnett Place Mall area near Duluth during this busy holiday season.
The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation has halted lane closings on the Pleasant Hill Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) construction project in anticipation of higher traffic in the area through Wednesday, Jan. 2.Â
Workers still may be on site actively working on tasks outside the normal lanes of travel. Motorists are reminded to drive safely and obey the posted speeds, especially in work zones.

When completed, the DDI will shift traffic to the opposite side of the road, making left turns onto Interstate I-85 easier and improving the flow of traffic across the bridge.
The DDI’s design relieves congestion, improves safety, and is less expensive than replacing or widening the bridge.
