McClure Bridge Road Intersection Quietly Reopened

Intersection of McClure Bridge Road, West Lawrenceville Street and Irvindale Road open again to thru traffic, but motorists encouraged to still use detour routes.

Duluth city officials quietly reopened the intersection of McClure Bridge Road, West Lawrenceville Street and Irvindale Road to thru traffic Tuesday (March 13), but encouraged drivers to continue to use the detour routes.

The major intersection had been closed for four weeks from Feb. 13 through March 12 to complete construction of a roundabout that will link McClure Bridge Road, West Lawrenceville Street and Irvindale Road to a proposed Hospital Connector.

“There is a lot of work that needs to be done (on the roundabout), and we are hoping for another week or two of reduced traffic so that the contractor can keep moving,” according to city planner Melissa Muscato.

Work on the roundabout, which is drivable, is expected to be completed in another month, Muscato said. Some single-lane closures will be required intermittently in the construction zone, she said.

Residents and local business owners will continue to have access to and from their homes and businesses.

The suggested detour routes are Pleasant Hill Road to Buford Highway or Peachtree Industrial Boulevard to Ga. Hwy. 120 (Abbotts Bridge Road).

Work on the Hospital Connector is scheduled to start as soon as the roundabout is finished.
