Rainbow Village to Mark 20 Years at Oct. 22 Gala

2011 gala to feature recap of past years and testimonials from Rainbow Village children.

Rainbow Village will celebrate 20 years of breaking the cycles of homelessness, poverty and domestic violence in the Duluth community at its 2011 Gala Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

“Puttin’ on the Glitz” will feature silent and live auctions, an elegant dinner, and dancing to the music of Blue Sky Atlanta. The gala, which begins at 6:30 p.m., is being presented by Wilmington Trust.

Former Atlanta Falcons Coach Dan Reeves will serve as master of ceremonies. State Rep. Brooks Coleman and Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris will serve as auctioneers. Renowned Duluth artist Kathy Fincher will be painting during the gala, and her work of art will be auctioned off. A list of auction items is available on the Rainbow Village website.

There will be a special 20-year recap of Rainbow Village’s work in the community and testimonials from former Rainbow Village children.

Tickets are $125 each or $1,000 for a table of 10.

Rainbow Village is a transitional housing program for homeless families with children. A new campus that will allow Rainbow Village to triple the number of families it can serve is under construction in Duluth. Phase 1 includes a new Family Service Center and two 6-unit apartments slated to open in April 2012.
