'The Sound of Music' to Ring Out in Duluth

Artios Academies presenting beloved musical 'The Sound of Music' in Duluth March 8-10.

 

Artios Academies students will present the delightful Rogers & Hammerstein musical “The Sound of Music” at Sugarloaf United Methodist Church in Duluth March 8, 9 and 10.

A cast of 50 talented teenagers and children will appear in the musical being directed and produced by Artios alumni. Based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp titled “The Story of the Trapp Family Singers,” the musical is filled with memorable songs including the title song "The Sound of Music," "Edelweiss,” "My Favorite Things,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" and "Do-Re-Mi.”

The original 1959 Broadway musical starring Mary Martin as Maria and Theodore Bikel as Capt. von Trapp won eight Tony Awards. The 1965 movie version starring Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummer as Capt. von Trapp earned eight Academy Awards.

The musical tells the story of the romance that develops between the stern captain, a widower with seven children, and their governess Maria along with the loving relationships she develops with the children. After the Nazis occupy Austria on the eve of World War II, the Trapp family escapes over the mountains into Switzerland.

Artios Academies of Johns Creek is a Christian school that partners with home-schooling families to provide arts and academic programs to children ages 4-18.

Cast members in the Artios Academies production include Rachel Gaby as Maria, Tyler Trump and Capt. von Trapp, Jennifer Daniels as Liesl von Trapp, Justin Sterner as Friedrich von Trapp, Miranda Harmon as Louisa von Trapp, Sam Perry as Kurt von Trapp, Abi Davis as Brigitta von Trapp, Addison Davis as Marta von Trapp, and Kelsey Schulman as Gretl von Trapp.

Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8; 7 p.m. Friday, March 9; and 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., Saturday, March 10. Order tickets at $10 for adults and $8 for children online here.
