Steverino's Pizzeria Invaded by 'Cash Mob'

on Main Street in downtown Duluth was the site of the Duluth Merchants Association's first “Cash Mob” March 6. DMA members enjoyed pizza appetizers and sub specials while networking. Ten percent of the proceeds will be donated to Mary Roberts, director of the Hands of Christ – A Duluth Cooperative Ministry food pantry, who is starting a thrift store. According to the DMA website, cash mobs “encourage people to go into small local businesses and spend their money, en masse, to give the business owner a little bit of economic stimulus.” Steverino’s is located in a historic 130-year-old building with a patio fronting Main Street and tables facing the Duluth Town Green in the rear of the pizzeria. Samantha Martin, rear, from left, and Duluth Steverino’s owner Henry Harrington show a popular Pizza Bianca (white pizza) to DMA members Vivian and Steve Eckman, front, from left, owners of Minuteman Press in Duluth. The DMA meets the first Tuesday of every month. The next meeting April 7 will be a mini-expo at the Fall Festival Center starting at 6:30 p.m. The DMA is also planning Cash Mobs at other local businesses in the future. The next Cash Mob will occur at 5 p.m. April 16 at Kurt's Bistro.
