Four teams of junior golfers including a Duluth player will compete in the first-ever Junior League Golf World Series at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth this weekend Sept. 17-18. The golfers represent Atlanta, Dallas, Tampa, and San Diego.
World Series play starts Saturday morning and concludes Sunday. "Junior League Golf is thrilled to give these young players a chance to experience and appreciate the sport in a social way that will keep them playing for life: said Bob Longmire, JLG commissioner, in a press release. "We're excited to be able to host four great teams from four great cities at a world-class facility like TPC Sugarloaf, where these juniors will compete for an inaugural title and create memories that will last them a lifetime."
Junior League Golf is modeled on the recreational youth baseball program and gives every youngster a chance to play on a team. Its relaxed 2-player vs. 2-player scramble format puts less pressure on young players than the traditional individual stroke-play formats.
Teams will compete in a round-robin format. Each team will square off against one another in 9-hole competitions with the best overall won-loss record determining the champion.
