Juvenile Charged In Dunwoody Student's Death: Officials

The 15-year-old student suffered a medical emergency and prompted a school lockdown at Dunwoody High School.

DUNWOODY, GA — A juvenile has been arrested in connection with the death of a 15-year-old Dunwoody High School student Monday, DeKalb County School officials said Tuesday.

The student suffered a medical emergency and prompted a school lockdown, Dunwoody High School Principal Tom Bass told families in a letter previously obtained by Patch.

School officials said the juvenile was charged on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, and was taken to the DeKalb Regional Youth Detention Center. The juvenile was not identified.

The teenage girl was identified as Mia Dieguez, Atlanta News First reported, which spoke with her family. Dieguez's family told the news outlet they believe she died after taking a fentanyl-laced pill.

The school district has not yet identified the student or released a cause of death.

"Due to the individual's status as a minor, their personally identifiable information will not be disclosed," school officials said in an updated statement released Tuesday.
