Dunwoody Doesn’t Rank With Others Locally on the U.S. News and World Report Best Schools List

We've got a comparative breakdown with top ranked Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology. The public charter in Lawrenceville was ranked the No. 3 best public high school in the nation by the magazine, and No. 1 in Georgia.

 

The numbers were decent but Dunwoody High School did not rank in the nation or state on the recently released U.S. News and World Report Best High Schools list.

U.S News looked at test scores based on student performance on state exit exams and internationally available exams on college-level course work, and found the Gwinnett charter school to be 100 percent proficient in English, math and college readiness.

Dunwoody High School is 95 percent proficient in English, 89 percent in math, and 40.6 percent in college readiness according to U.S. News.

U.S. News and World Report used three factors to determine the rankings:

  • Analysts looked at how well students at the schools performed statewide.
  • If less advantaged students (defined as black, Hispanic and low-income) performed better than their peers in the state.
  • The school’s college readiness index based on Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate test data.
