Dunwoody Nature Center Announces 2015 Summer Camps

Registration for Dunwoody Nature Center’s 2015 Summer Camps opens on Sunday, Feb. 1, for members and Sunday, Feb. 15, for the public.

In 2014, the camps were so popular that the capacity was reached with another 100 families still on the wait list.

For 2015, the Nature Center will have a new playground facility plus a newly renovated front entry area with more space for campers.

For campers ages 9 to 12, the Nature Center will host three weeks of camp at the Island Ford facility in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. All full-day camps will include guest experts to further broaden the camper’s understandings of nature. Planned guests include specialists in snakes, reptiles, bugs, birds of prey handlers, musical guests and more.

Half-day camps are also available with optional early drop-off and lake pick-up for working parents or children who want to stay a little longer.

Here are some fun facts from the Nature Center about the camps:

  • 15 different themes running May 26
  • 6 new camp themes and 9 returning “camper favorites”
  • Full day camps for rising Kindergarten through 5th grade; Half day camps for 3 and 4 year olds
  • Over 750 campers thrived at the Nature Center in 2014 – and 98% plan to return again this summer
  • Early drop off available beginning at 8:15 for Early Birds
  • Late pick up available until 5:30 with the Games of Strategy session
  • Junior Ranger program and two additional camps with expanded hours for older campers at the National Park
  • Service’s Island Ford facility on the Chattahoochee River
  • 100% of parents surveyed from last summer’s camps would recommend the Nature Center camps to a friend
