A dispute ensued between an Uber driver and five girls when he said he only had enough space and seatbelts to transport four of them.
DUNWOODY, GA — An Uber driver was arrested after police say he shot a 16-year-old girl who hit him during a dispute about the driver not being able to transport five people in Dunwoody.
The altercation and shooting happened at 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 4500 block of Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody Police said Tuesday.
Five girls were leaving a fast-food restaurant and ordered an Uber to take them home; but when the Uber arrived, the driver said he only had enough space and seatbelts to transport four of them, police said.

The driver then fired a gun and shot the girl who hit him, police said. The other girls told responding officers the assault and threat did not happen before the shooting, police said.
The girl was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and was in critical but stable condition, police said.
Police identified the driver as Meredith Grundy, 38. He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a felony, and was taken to the DeKalb County Jail, police said. Jail records on Tuesday showed he was being held without bond.
