1 Dead, 6 Injured In East Atlanta Fire

When crews arrived, they saw heavy flames and residents jumping from balconies of the 24-unit apartment building, DeKalb fire officials say.

EAST ATLANTA, GA — A person died, and six other people were injured, in a Sunday apartment fire in the 2000 block of Bouldercrest Road, DeKalb County fire officials confirmed Monday to Patch.

When crews arrived, they saw heavy flames and residents jumping from balconies of the 24-unit building, the DeKalb County Fire Rescue said. Firefighters then began assisting with rescues, fire officials said.

While extinguishing the fire, crews recovered from the building a male who had died, fire officials said. An age is unknown.

Four of the six people who were injured in the fire were taken to a hospital with burns and other injuries, fire officials said.

The American Red Cross assisted residents, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is unknown.
