5th Annual DCSD Film Festival To Showcase 19 Student Videos

Reps from Tyler Perry Studios, Rockstar Brothers and industry pros will judge entries.

The DeKalb County School District (DCSD), in partnership with the DeKalb Entertainment Commission, is hosting the 5th Annual DeKalb County Student Film Festival. The event will be held on March 21, from 6 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., at the Plaza Theatre at 1049 Ponce DeLeon Avenue in Atlanta. The venue is expected to be filled to capacity with student filmmakers, friends, family, and VIPs.

A total of 19 student films, up to three minutes each, will be shown on the big screen. The theme for each video submission is Running Out of Time, which required specific elements in the final product to include a specific line, “We’re running out of time,” a picture frame as a prop, and a character named “Azari Binx.”

Films will be judged into one of two categories: Novice and Advanced. Winners will be announced that evening in the following categories: Best Overall, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Acting, Best Sound, Best Set Design, Best Wardrobe, and Audience Choice.

Film industry judges include Mavro Diamanti (Development Assistant at Tyler Perry Studios & Writer/Producer at Rockstar Brothers), Neriah Kharece (Director of Photography), Harrison Elli (Development Manager at Crazy Legs Productions & Writer/Director at Rockstar Brothers), and Javon Johnson (Actor/Writer/Director/Producer/Teacher).
