January Crime in EAV Falls 47 Percent

Snowpocalypse 2011 a key factor

Crime in East Atlanta Village plunged 47 percent in January from December’s reports Atlanta Police Department figures show.

It’s also down four percent when compared to January of last year.

A huge part of that drop stemmed from the massive snowstorm that brought Atlanta to a virtual halt.

“It is true that the snow storm had a great deal to do with the final numbers for January,” Curtis Davenport, a spokesman with the Atlanta Police Department told East Atlanta Patch.

“The City as a whole had less than 50 percent crime than what we would have normally had for that same time period. The snow lasted for a week, so that’s one-fourth of the month. “
