Gwinnett County police-involved shooting under investigation, seeking identity of deceased suspect (ocgnews.com) — State investigators are examining a fatal police shooting in Gwinnett County after an overnight pursuit on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard ended with officers firing on an armed suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at them. The man, killed at the scene, has not yet been identified, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case and will release further details.
   

2. Gwinnett teen accused in Buford Highway chase was wanted for drive-by shooting (wsbtv.com) — Gwinnett County deputies say a 17-year-old was arrested after a high-speed chase on Buford Highway that ended in multiple crashes but no serious injuries. Officials report he was already wanted in connection with a November drive-by shooting at a Lawrenceville home. The teen now faces additional charges tied to the pursuit and alleged collisions with other vehicles and a sheriff’s car.
   

3. 2 men charged after tire shop set on fire in Gwinnett County (wsbtv.com) — Fire crews quickly knocked down an arson fire at a Mavis Tires & Brakes shop on Centerville Rosebud Road in Gwinnett County, where one person was treated for smoke inhalation. County fire investigators say two men have been charged, though their names have not yet been released, and the detached garage suffered roof collapse before firefighters contained the blaze.
   

4. Buddhist monks ring in New Year in Georgia with ceremony during 2,300-mile journey (fox5atlanta.com) — Buddhist monks walking 2,300 miles for peace drew early-morning crowds in Gwinnett County, where they held a New Year’s offering ceremony at a Snellville temple and stopped for lunch locally. Residents lined up from 6 a.m. to cheer them on as they continued their journey through North Georgia toward Washington, D.C.
   

5. Black-owned Gwinnett flight school pledges $1M to train 1,000 pilots (wsbtv.com) — A Gwinnett County flight school founder is committing $1 million in scholarships to help train 1,000 new pilots, with a focus on students of color. Lookup Flight Academy, the county’s first Black-owned flight school, recently earned key FAA certification, opening more financial aid options as it works to expand local aviation career pathways.
