2 Juveniles Arrested In Hoax Threats Against Metro Atlanta Schools

The arrests comes on the heels of a fatal shooting Wednesday at Apalachee High School, where two students and two teachers died.

METRO ATLANTA, GA — Police in metro Atlanta have arrested two juveniles after accusing them of making false social media threats of school shootings.

Gwinnett County Police arrested a juvenile Saturday and charged the boy on suspicion of felony terroristic threats after "he made fake threats about shooting people at a school," police said Monday.

Police did not identify the person or the school that was the subject of the suspected hoax. It is unknown if the person was a student at the school.

Police were able to obtain user information, and during an investigation, police said they identified the juvenile suspect.

The suspect was interviewed, and police said though the threat was a hoax, the suspect was arrested and taken to the Metro Regional Youth Detention Center.

The day prior, Roswell Police said a 14-year-old Elkins Pointe Middle School student was arrested after being accused of making threats against the school.

Officers were notified Friday that an online threat against Elkins Pointe was anonymously posted to Instagram, police said.

Through the night hours, police said investigators traced the post to a Roswell home. While at home, the student acknowledged jokingly posting the threat, police said.

A search warrant was obtained, and police said a replica pellet gun was found and seized by detectives. The gun was seen in the online threat, police said.

The unnamed student was arrested and charged on suspicion of terroristic threats and acts and domestic terrorism, police said. The student was taken to Metro Regional Youth Detention Center, police said.

These arrests comes on the heels of several similar arrests made throughout metro Atlanta after a 14-year-old boy was accused of opening fire Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Winder. The suspected gunman, 14-year-old Colt Gray, was charged on suspicion of four counts of felony murder while his dad, Colin Gray, also faced several charges in connection with the shooting.

Roswell Police said dozens of juveniles have been arrested for making threats in their communities.

"These arrests should send a clear message from the unified and collaborative Georgia law enforcement community: threatening the safety and security of others is never a 'joke.' It is a crime, and we will bring every available resource to bear to investigate and charge those responsible," Roswell Police said.
