9/11 Ceremony With Gwinnett First Responders

The event will be in session at the exact time of day as when the first plane hit the North Tower.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — The victims of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, will be honored at a Gwinnett County memorial on Wednesday, the 18th anniversary.

The Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services is running the event, which will include remarks and a ceremonial wreath laying by a public safety honor guard, a release from the Gwinnett DFES says.

It will start Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 8:30 a.m., just minutes before the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center that day.

The ceremony is open to the public, and will be at the Gwinnett Fallen heroes Memorial in front of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center at 75 Langley Dr. in Lawrenceville.

Gwinnett County Fire Engineer Donald Strother will emcee the ceremony, with speakers including Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlotte Nash, Lawrenceville Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson, Gwinnett Fire Chief Russell Knick, Gwinnett Police Chief Butch Ayers, Chief Deputy Lou Solis of the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office and Capt. Ryan Morgan of the Lawrenceville Police Department.
