Elizabeth Warren Coming To Georgia Next Weekend

Warren, who is facing more questions about her claims of a native American ancestry, will be in Lawrenceville next Saturday.

ATLANTA -- U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who announced her presidential campaign in the middle of new questions surrounding her claims of a native American ancestry, will be coming to metro Atlanta next weekend. Warren, who announced her candidacy on Saturday, will be appearing at Central Gwinnett High School at an event called the Lawrenceville Organizing Event with Elizabeth Warren.

On Sunday in Iowa, Warren said President Donald Trump "may not even be a free person" by next year's election. The Massachusetts senator has largely avoided talking about Trump since she began testing the waters for a campaign more than a month ago.

Warren didn't explain her comment, though she appeared to be referring to the multiple investigations that have shadowed Trump's presidency.

A liberal darling, Warren caught the public's attention taking hard stances against large corporations. She played a major role in creating the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in 2007, an agency that has been muted by the Trump administration.

The senator has a public, nasty rivalry with President Trump, who has called her "Pocahontas" on many occasions in reference to her claimed Native American ancestry. The topic of her heritage has frequently landed her in hot water, most recently after it was discovered she listed herself as "American Indian" on a Texas legal bar registration form in 1986.

A DNA analysis released in October confirmed Warren's claims, but it opened her up to further attacks from both sides of the political aisle.

Warren has been a frequent target of the president, who has criticized her past claims to Native American heritage, including in a tweet Saturday night.

Warren's appearance is the first appearance of any presidential candidate in Georgia ahead of 2020. Republicans have dominated Peach State politics since 2002, and have held every statewide elected office for more than a decade. However, Stacey Abrams narrow loss to Republican Brian Kemp in last fall's nationally watched governor's race have given Democrats hope they can turn the state purple next year.
