Fire Engulfs Vacant Gwinnett House, Cause Unknown
A Lawrenceville home is destroyed and partially collapsed after a fire Sunday.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – A Lawrenceville home is destroyed and partially collapsed after a fire Sunday. The home was vacant and there were no reported injuries.
Firefighters responded at 5:07 p.m. to a passerby report of a house fire in the 1000 block of Old Peachtree Road NE in Lawrenceville. A caller to 911 reported flames coming from a vacant home in the area.
Fire crews arrived on scene in approximately two minutes to find a single story home with heavy fire throughout the entire structure and smoke billowing into the sky. Fire attack hose lines were deployed and a deck gun was placed into operation for a defensive fire attack. Multiples hose lines were utilized from the outside to bring the bulk of the fire under control and gain entry into the building. A search of the structure found no victims. The home is a total loss due to extensive fire damage and partial collapse. The owner of the property arrived on scene and confirmed the structure is vacant with no active utilities.

A Fire Investigator was requested to respond to the scene for origin and cause determination. It was determined that the fire originated in the left/rear corner of the building where the floor system collapsed. The exact cause is undetermined and under investigation.

Firefighters remind residents to install working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in each of the bedrooms. Develop a home fire escape plan and practice fire drills regularly.
