GBI Investigating Gang-Related Officer-Involved Shooting
The GBI is investigating a gang-related officer-involved shooting Tuesday evening in Lawrenceville.
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating an officer shooting involving a Gwinnett County Police Officer. Shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday. No officers were injured in this incident.
Detectives assigned to the Gang Unit were following up on possible criminal gang activity at 1989 Prospect Road in unincorporated Lawrenceville. When officers arrived, they began to hear yelling at the rear of the home.
As they began to investigate the source of the screaming, they found their way through the woods and onto the property of 1329 Alpha Drive, directly behind the home. When officers approached the property, they heard at least one gunshot, police said.

Officers encountered Andrew Joseph Allen, 27, at the Alpha Drive residence who pointed a handgun at the officers, according to the GBI. Police reported Allen was ordered to drop his gun and then moved his gun in the direction of the officers.

One officer fired his weapon, striking Allen, the GBI said. Allen was taken into custody and transported to Gwinnett Medical Center where he was treated and released.
Allen has been charged by the GBI with one count of burglary as a result of the initial GBI investigation for burglary of the home on Alpha Drive and aggravated assault on a police officer.
Initial information indicates that Allen fled the Prospect Road residence once Gwinnett County Police arrived.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the
Gwinnett County District Attorney’s office for review.
