GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – Deputy Kenny Wimberly, a Gwinnett deputy who made the ultimate sacrifice, was remembered and honored recently by his former brothers in arms at the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.
"It's been twenty years, but it seems like yesterday," reads a Facebook post by Sheriff's deputies.
"Deputy Kenny Wimberly died a hero's death, but that's no consolation to the many people who loved him," continues the post. "He was murdered when he responded to a disturbance at the apartment complex where he lived. He died trying to help others. He was a beloved member of our blue family and a father to young children who've grown up without him.

A wall mural in our Field Operations Division was painted in his honor. The street leading to our office bears his name. The tallest building on our grounds is named after him. A memorial in our lobby is on display year round.
