Lawrenceville Adopts $152 Million 10-Month Budget

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – The City of Lawrenceville mayor and Council approved a $152-million 10-month budget for the 2019 fiscal year, Sept. - June. This vote comes on the heels of Council’s decision to decrease the City’s millage rate and will invest nearly $29 million in capital projects over the next budget year. This vote was taken in a public meeting on Aug. 6, and was made at the recommendation of staff and with significant input from the City’s ongoing Financial Citizen’s Review Committee.

“We are grateful to the staff, the Financial Citizen’s Review Committee and the public for their input during this process,” said Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson. “The decision to switch to a new fiscal year will support better alignment and financial planning with our partners at the County and State levels. In addition, the continued investment in capital projects will carry the momentum we have had this year in successful execution of strategic initiatives and support the ongoing goal to ever-move Lawrenceville Forward.”

The budget focuses on continued support of all the City’s operations – police, administrative services, gas, water, electric and street utilities as well as the addition of seven new positions in key service areas. A continued focus on road maintenance and infrastructure improvements as well as cost of living increases were a part of this year’s budget as well.

“Having a robust and balanced financial plan in place that will properly address the needs of each department and operation is essential to our ability to provide not just adequate but exceptional service to the community,” shared Chuck Warbington, city manager. “We look forward to continuing to serve this community and plan to begin the 2020 budget process shortly, using this coming year to adjust our fiscal timing and plan strategically for a very big year in 2020 with the completion of several projects currently underway.”
