Teen Facing Murder Charges In Uber Driver's Shooting Death: Lawrenceville PD

A 15-year-old was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 58-year-old Uber driver during a carjacking, Lawrenceville Police say.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A 15-year-old boy is facing murder charges in connection with the carjacking and shooting death of an Uber drive on New Year's Day, Lawrenceville Police said Thursday.

The fatal shooting happened around 5:15 a.m. in the 600 block of Groveland Parkway. Police said the driver, a 58-year-old man, was found dead laying in the roadway.

Ring camera footage showed a black SUV stopping in the road and dropping off the man before leaving the scene, police said.

Officers did not say when the shooting happened but noted the man suffered at least one gunshot wound. He "was the victim of a carjacking that led to his death," police said.

Detectives identified the SUV and determined it belonged to the man, police said. They tracked it to a Hardwood Circle home in Lilburn around 1 p.m., police said.

The teenage boy was arrested on murder charges and was charged as an adult, police said. He was not identified.
