Aldi Scheduled to Open in Loganville in 2014
The discount supermarket chain isn't expected to open until late spring of early summer of 2014.

The international discount supermarket chain Aldi may have submitted plans in early August to open a store in Loganville, but locals shouldn't expect the store to open anytime soon.
The Loganville location, which will be at 370 Athens Highway next to Discount Tire, is scheduled to open either in late spring or early summer of 2014, according to Aldi spokesman Daniel Hernandez.
Hernandez couldn't confirm when construction would start for the new store, but city Planning and Development Director Tim Prater said it could start as early as next week.
The city has finished looking over Aldi's plans and issued permits Tuesday (Oct. 1) to start development construction, such as clearing dirt and laying pipe in the ground.
According to the Aldi website, the German grocery store carries an assortment of about 1,400 frequently purchased grocery items that are significantly discounted against other comparable items.
As well as carrying lower-priced, private-label brands, the company claims to keep prices low in other ways. These include not accepting credit cards and operating a cart-deposit system that requires shoppers to insert a quarter in order to obtain a shopping cart.
