  1. Amara Hazzard, an assistant teacher at Strong Roots Academy in Loganville, was arrested and fired from her job last week for child cruelty. According to police reports, Hazzard slammed a child to the ground because they "wouldn't lay down" for a nap. Hazzard was charged with child cruelty and booked into the Walton County Jail.   2. Yesterday, Nov. 18, the Gwinnett County Police Department announced that 16-year-old Jay Sanchez and 15-year-old Wendy Revas Orellana were arrested out-of-state in Florida for the recent shooting at a Gwinnett County shopping plaza at 745 Beaver Ruin Road. Sanchez and Orellana are being charged with felony murder, malice murder, and aggravated assault for the death of 16-year-old Ryan Rodriguez Romero of Peachtree Corners and injuring a 17-year-old girl.   3. On Nov. 17, Representative-elect Rey Martinez (R-Loganville) and Senate Majority Caucus Chairman Jason Anavitarte (R-Dallas) announced the creation of the first Georgia Hispanic Caucus. The caucus will focus on issues that serve the community, elevating Hispanic values, and how to strengthen and unify Hispanic and Latino representation. (11 Alive)
  4. On Nov. 17, the Gwinnett County School Board discussed the increase in school violence and heard proposals on school safety. Board members considered a badge alert system and an AI weapons detections system at all schools. But the main concern was the most recent discipline policy change that reduced the standards for discipline. Within the coming weeks, a discipline task force will meet to "tweak" the discipline policy and gather input from the community, students, and staff. (WSB-TV Atlanta)
