Here are the top five stories in Loganville-Grayson today:

  1. The Gwinnett County Library is hosting A Big Read Kickoff event on Saturday. The library's community partner, Kuumba Storytellers of Georgia, has received a 2022-23 Big Reads grant from the National Endowment of the Arts. The Gwinnett County Library will celebrate the group receiving the grant award by hosting A Big Read Kickoff on Oct. 8. Visitors to the event will receive a copy of 'Homegoing,' a complimentary copy of Yaa Gyasi’s 2016 award-winning novel. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  2. A third glass recycling location has opened in Gwinnett County. On Wednesday, E.E. Robinson Park welcomed residents as they dropped off clean, empty glass containers. The county has already successfully diverted over 102 tons of glass from the other two sites in Gwinnett County. County officials believe that this new location will help to reduce waste throughout the area. The two other landfills in Gwinnett County are OneStop Norcross and Pinckneyville Park in Peachtree Corners. (WSB Atlanta)
  3. Yesterday evening, the City of Loganville warned residents along Highway 81 that their water service would be temporarily shut down. Homes between Lawrenceville Road and Lee Byrd Road were without water from 11:30 p.m. until 1:30 a.m., when the city estimated it would cause the least inconvenience. The interruption was due to necessary repairs on a nearby water hydrant. (City of Loganville)
  4. There are many new houses on the market in Loganville, Grayson, and the surrounding areas. But instead of putting yourself in a spin over all the options and decisions, let the professionals help you figure out the best house for you. The top five open houses coming soon offer a wide variety of different homes for a variety of different families. 5. Gwinnett, along with several other counties in the area, has announced that it will be issuing WIC benefits electronically on cards, starting on Oct. 11. This is part of an ongoing process to switch over entirely to eWIC, which officials say will streamline the process. The eWIC will operate like a debit card, so users will be able to swipe and get their groceries without bothering with paper vouchers. Dekalb, Newton, and Rockdale counties are also switching over.
