Grayson Highway Jaywalker Struck, Killed Near Lawrenceville

A Lawrenceville man died Tuesday night when he was hit by a car while trying to cross Grayson Highway near Maranatha Road.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A 63-year-old Lawrenceville man that authorities believe was under the influence of alcohol died Tuesday night when he was hit by a car while crossing Grayson Highway.

Officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department and Gwinnett County Fire Department answered a call at about 9:45 p.m. involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Grayson Highway and Maranatha Trail. When they arrived, they found Douglas Johnson of Lawrenceville dead.

According to a police statement, investigators determined that Johnson had been trying jaywalk across Grayson Highway and that he was under the influence of alcohol.

The driver of the vehicle that hit him, Chareis Daniels of Lawrenceville, stayed on the scene and cooperated with investigators. Daniels was not charged with any violation.
