- In 2021, three inmates in Gwinnett County Detention Center died while in custody awaiting trial. On Saturday, families of the three inmates protested outside of the jail alongside representatives from Georgia, DeKalb, and Gwinnett chapters of the NAACP. They're calling for better conditions inside of the prison and further accountability. ( The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- Elections begin today in Walton County for governor and secretary of state. The Monroe Local reports that the machines have been tested and locations are finalized. Registered voters can begin casting their ballots at three locations in Walton County, including Monroe, Loganville, and Social Circle. (Monroe Local)
- The executive director of the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District, Joe Allen, doesn't believe the Gwinnett Place Mall will be redeveloped any time soon. An implementation strategy for redeveloping the 38-year-old mall has to first be presented to county officials and will then need a lot of "behind the scenes" work, according to Allen. - Graduation rates across Walton County have increased over the last year. Public schools in the county have reported record numbers. Loganville High School had the highest rate in the county at 96.1 percent. Only a few years ago, schools in the area were reporting percentages in the 80s. (Monroe Local)
