  1. Two Gwinnett County sisters suffered a devastating apartment fire at the beginning of November. Cassie and Jane Kim lost nearly everything — including memories of their parents who passed away when they were teenagers — in the fire after having only been in the Duluth apartment for a month and a half. The sisters said recently they have been amazed by the outpouring of support from the community as a GoFundMe page was created since the fire and already raised $8,000 to help them get back on their feet. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. Even amid proposed solutions for violence in Gwinnett County schools, such as crisis badge alerts systems for employees, parents and teachers do not feel students are safe. One mother is refusing to send her daughter back to Duluth High School after she was attacked during lunch on Nov. 3 in front of an administrator. Meadowcreek High School math teacher Laura Paiser said, "I was constantly worried for [my students' and my children's] safety. I broke down in tears during a meeting with my team one day from the sheer stress I was feeling." (Subscription: Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  3. A pair was caught on camera stealing from a store in Gwinnett County but police are still searching for them. The duo was seen on surveillance footage from Nov. 16 putting items from Academy Sports in Snellville into the trunk of an SUV and driving away when the items poured out of the trunk. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Snellville Police Department. (WSB Atlanta)
  4. Georgia has suspended applications for rental assistance for the time being as stimulus funds start to decrease. The Georgia Rental Assistance Program has received $989 million from the U.S. Treasury’s Federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program. The money funded the Georgia Rental Assistance Program which has helped keep 51,000 tenants in Georgia keep their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The state is still processing applications in the program's portal that were submitted before the suspension as announced. (WABE 90.1 FM)
