Here are the top five stories today in Loganville-Grayson:
- Gwinnett County police say a local woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Wednesday morning. The crash occurred near Indian Trail Lilburn Road and Steve Reynolds Boulevard in nearby Norcross. As of Wednesday afternoon, the victim's identity had not been released, though officials described her as a woman in her 70s. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- A new single-family home community is coming to Loganville after receiving zoning approval from Gwinnett County. The Windance Lake neighborhood will feature a total of 111 new homes, ranging from 1,800-2,000 square feet. Home prices are expected to start from the low $400,000s. (Metro Atlanta CEO)
- Several Gwinnett County community members and organizations were recognized for their environmental stewardship during Governor Brian Kemp's recent Environmental Address. Two Georgia Gwinnett College students, Brian Land and Ngoc Lan Thanh Lee, each received $2,500 scholarships. The Gwinnett County Police Department was also named the Green Community Partner of the Year during the ceremony. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- The Walton County Sheriff's Office will host this year's Community Night Out on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Meridian Park in Loganville. The theme of the event will be "Walton County Stands United," and a variety of local agencies and nonprofits will be available to share information on community safety, unity, and crime prevention. The event will run from 4:00-8:00 p.m. (Walton County GA Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
- Officials are investigating after more than a dozen fights broke out Monday morning at a Gwinnett County high school. The fights led to a lockdown at the school, and many of them were recorded and shared to social media by student witnesses. Bernard Watson, a spokesperson for the district, says the students involved were dismissed early and can expect to face disciplinary action. (WSB Radio)
