- Hundreds of local high school football games have been rescheduled to get ahead of Hurricane Ian and its potential impact. Tonight's scheduled games — Grayson at Newton, Athens Christian at Loganville Christian, and Eastside at Loganville — were all moved up to last night at 7:30 p.m. Other games have been postponed to Oct. 14. - On Wednesday evening, a Walton County woman accidentally locked herself out of her house. When the Chief of the Walton County Sheriff's Office was unable to help, local business owner Doug Robinson of Social Circle-based SnD Lock & Key came to the rescue late in the evening. After what was described as "a fairly lengthy attempt," Robinson was able to install new equipment for the woman, free of charge. "People like Doug are what keeps us having faith in mankind and we salute him," said the Walton County Sherrif's Office in a Facebook post. (Walton County GA Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
- For the first time ever, Gwinnett County's parks division has received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association. The accreditation was presented during the National Recreation and Park Association Annual Conference in Phoenix on Sep. 20. According to county officials, this national accreditation puts Gwinnett among the "elite park and recreation agencies" in the nation for complying with more than 150 accreditation standards. "CAPRA accreditation signals to our residents and stakeholders that Gwinnett Parks and Recreation is among the best of the best in our field,” said Parks and Recreation Division Director Chris Minor in a statement. - It's never too early to start thinking about your student's future career! Gwinnett County Public Schools' Academies and CTE Department is hosting a K-12 career and education exploration experience on Saturday, Oct. 15. The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Discovery High School in nearby Lawrenceville. All Gwinnett County families are invited to attend and explore Career and Technical Education course offerings, local employers and career paths, and opportunities with Career and Technical Student Organizations. - Looking for some family fun? The Grayson Public Library has plenty of events coming up next week for the whole family to enjoy. The week kicks off with an Eating Healthy for Health Literacy Awareness Month event on Monday, followed by Toddler Time and Cooking With Kids on Tuesday, Mini Chefs and Big Chefs: Cheese Fondue on Wednesday, and Preschool Storytime on Thursday.
