Walnut Grove Elementary was on lockdown Thursday (Oct. 10) after an overnight theft took place at a nearby ATM.

The level one lockdown at the school lasted a few hours and was lifted at 11 a.m., according to Walton County Public Schools spokeswoman Kim Embry.

"It's our lowest level of lockdown, which means our exterior doors are locked, and the children do not go outside for recess, but instruction inside the building continues normally," she said.

The ATM theft took place at a liquor store a few blocks away from the school on Highway 81.

During the lockdown the Walton County Sheriff's Office was looking for suspects, and they apprehended four suspects in connection to the theft, according to Chief Deputy Keith Brooks.
