Retail sales in the U.S. unexpectedly rose in April, Reuters reports, and this indicates an underlying strength in the economy.Â
"It's more indication that our economy is growing,"Â Tom Hall, an economics professor at Miami University's Farmer School of Business in Oxford, Ohio, is quoted as saying. "It's not growing as rapidly as a lot of people would like, but things are improving."Â
According to the report, consumers bought automobiles, building materials and a range of other goods, and spent more money at restaurants and bars.
