Here are the top five stories in Loganville and Grayson today:
- Hurricane Ian is drawing closer to Georgia, and residents from Loganville-Grayson are paying attention to the updates. The storm made landfall on Wednesday in Florida, where it is close to becoming a category 5 hurricane. All counties in Georgia are in a state of emergency, and will likely remain that way until Ian has passed. Residents are advised to brace for tropical storm-level gusts of wind and up to six inches of rain. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office will be holding a food distribution on Oct. 11. The National Faith and Blue Food Distribution is a free event inviting the community to pick up shelf-stable foods as well as fresh produce. The event will run for as long as the food holds out. No ID is required to attend or receive food. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Gwinnett County Police have released footage of a suspect in a deadly stabbing case in the hopes that someone will come forward with information. On Labor Day, 44-year-old Matthew Jones was found stabbed to death in front of his home. Police have not revealed a motive for the stabbing, which occurred on Ridge Oak Drive in Suwanee. - Chili fans will be swarming to Dunwoody on Oct 1. The Annual Atlanta Chili Cook Off is a much-loved event where chefs show off their chili chops and let the community sample their creations. The event will happen rain or shine, so be sure to bring your appetite (and an umbrella if needed). Tickets are available at the link. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- On Wednesday morning, a vehicle on the I-85 in Gwinnett County burst into flames. The incident took place on the side of the interstate, near Jimmy Carter Boulevard. Witnesses watched as firefighters successfully put out the flames and traffic eventually resumed as normal. There have been no reports of any injuries as a result of the incident, and police have not issued a statement as to the cause of the fire. (11Alive.com WXIA)
