  1. Gwinnett County Public Schools superintendent Calvin Watts says he plans to address longstanding inequities and instill a more caring culture during his second year in the position. The district plans to hire behavioral coaches to intervene before negative student behavior escalates, shifting away from relying on reactionary detentions and suspensions. Watts says he also hopes to hire more teachers from diverse backgrounds. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. Tomorrow, Sep. 22, the Gwinnett County Public Library will host the next installment of its "Authors & Dessert" event. Michael Gagnon and Matt Hild will discuss their book, “Gwinnett County, Georgia, and the Transformation of the American South, 1818-2018.” Interested residents can stop by at 7:00 p.m. to enjoy dessert and learn more about Gwinnett County through the ages.   3. A Loganville basketball star and high school junior is being recruited by top programs including Clemson, Auburn, and Stanford. Gicarri Harris stands at 6 feet 2 inches and currently plays as a combination guard for Loganville Grayson High. He is currently ranked No. 122 overall in the national junior class and says he plans to make a college decision next fall. (24/7 Sports)
  4. Get into the community and enjoy these upcoming city events in Loganville and Grayson! Tomorrow, Sep. 22, the City of Loganville will celebrate Public Safety Day on the Town Green.   5. A 13-year-old boy was found dead on Monday in a wooded area behind a subdivision in nearby Lithonia. While DeKalb County police have not officially released the child's identity, a woman who spoke to the press identified him as her son, Jamiren Crosby. Investigators are still working to determine Crosby's cause of death. (FOX 5 Atlanta)

  • The Captain Planet Foundation (CPF) is partnering with Cox Enterprises and the Turner Foundation to make revitalization grants available to hundreds of school gardens across the metro Atlanta area through a new Garden Rejuvenation Fund.
