Getaway Driver Arrested After 4 GA Inmates Escape: Authorities

One of the four inmates is a murder suspect while another suspect was being held for the U.S. Marshals Service.

MACON, GA — The driver of a getaway car used to help four inmates — including a murder suspect — escape the Bibb County Detention Center last week has been arrested, authorities said.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said a 2022 blue Dodge Challenger was used on Oct. 16 to help Joey Fournier, Marc Kerry Anderson, Johnifer Dernard Barnwell and Chavis Demaryo Stokes escape custody.

The four men remain at large, but authorities said the Challenger was found Friday in the parking lot of a North Avenue business.

Authorities identified the driver as Jakaylen Williams, 24, and charged him on suspicion of four counts of aiding or permitting another to escape lawful custody or confinement, theft by receiving stolen property and probation violation.

He was also arrested on warrants for aggravated assault, criminal trespass and battery family violence, in an unrelated case, authorities said. Williams is being held without bond and was transferred to an undisclosed law-enforcement facility, authorities said.

Authorities previously said the inmates escaped through a damaged day room window and a cut fence. They got into the Challenger that arrived at a location and helped them flee the center, authorities said.

Of the four inmates who escaped, Fournier was charged on suspicion of murder, authorities said.

A $73,000 total reward is being offered for information leading to the inmates.
