Murder Suspect, 3 Other Inmates Escape Georgia Jail

Authorities said they escaped around 3 a.m. Monday through a damaged window and a cut fence.

MACON, GA — Four inmates, including one facing a murder charge, escaped the Bibb County Detention Center around 3 a.m. Monday, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said the inmates escaped through a damaged day room window and a cut fence. They got into a blue Dodge Challenger that arrived at a location and helped them flee the center, authorities said.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Office are searching for the inmates.

Authorities identified the inmates as the following:

  • Joey Fournier, 52: a white man with gray hair and blue eyes who is 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. He was being held on suspicion of murder.
  • Marc Kerry Anderson, 24: a Black man with dreads who is 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. He was being held on suspicion of aggravated assault.
  • Johnifer Dernard Barnwell, 37: a Black man with braids who is 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. He was being detained for the U.S. Marshals.
  • Chavis Demaryo Stokes, 29: a Black man with black hair who is 5-feet-7-inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He was being detained on suspicion of possession of a firearm and drug trafficking.

According to the news outlet 13WMAZ, Macon schools were placed on a lockdown as a precautionary measure Monday. It is unknown if the lockdown will continue Tuesday.

Authorities ask anyone with information regarding the location of the inmates or the Challenger to call the sheriff's office, (478) 751-7500 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers, 1 (877) 682-7463.

The Georgia jail escape is one of multiple others that have taken place this year that has involved murder suspects.

Recently, Danilo Cavalcante, convicted of murder, escaped from Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania. He was captured on Sept. 13 and is now being held at the SCI Phoenix in Eagleville in the maximum security wing.

Meanwhile, Christopher Haynes, 30, accused of murder and assaulting an officer, escaped from The George Washington University Hospital while in custody on Sept. 7. As of Oct. 11, more than a month later, Haynes remained at large.

NBC News reported Michael Charles Burham, 34, escaped in early July from the Warren County Jail in Pennsylvania. He was accused of killing a New York woman.
