Here are the top three stories in Macon today:
- The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding 23-year-old Treyvon Walker, who is suspected of fatally shooting his girlfriend during an argument. On Friday, May 5, according to authorities, Walker ran away from the scene at Green Meadows Townhouses on Log Cabin Drive in Macon where 28-year-old Kanzea Owens was shot. Walker, who is considered armed and dangerous, was last seen wearing a black jacket and black shorts. View the link to see a photo of Walker. Anyone with information on Walker is asked to contact Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME. (13WMAZ)
- Leaders in Macon say solving crime is not simple and will take time. As part of Macon's Violence Prevention plan, known as MVP, the Community Foundation Of Central Georgia uses a three-year, 2.5 million dollar grant from Bibb County to distribute money to local organizations and groups that will help prevent and lower crime. Many organizations are working with the youth in crime prevention, which will not affect the crime statistics in the present but will help in the future. Kathryn Dennis, President Of Community Foundation Of Central Georgia, said that just like crime did not spike overnight, the success of MVP will not happen overnight. (wgxa.tv)
- The FBI is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of Tiara Ann Thomas (aka "Red"), a fugitive from Macon. The FBI Macon Resident Agency said Thomas is wanted for "violation of pretrial release for the original offenses of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession with intent to distribute Fentanyl." A photo of Thomas is available at the link. (CBS 42)
